Perspectives VIII: A Collection of Poems 351- 400

Peter Alevizos is a poet’s poet. What do we mean by that? Quite simply, he writes poetry because he must. Since he first began creating poems as an undergrad, he used them to explore feelings and thoughts that simply had no other way of expression.

Like a painter must paint and a dancer must move, a poet must write. And perhaps, that is more important in this world now than ever.

The singer/songwriter/poet Alice Walker said, “ Poetry is so important because it helps us understand and appreciate the world around us. Poetry’s strength lies in its ability to shed a ‘sideways’ light on the world, so the truth sneaks up on you. No question about it. Poetry teaches us how to live. Poetry is like the Windex on a grubby car window—it bares open the vulnerabilities of human beings so we can all relate to each other a little better.”

The poet, Lidy Wilks wrote, “I’ve said it once before that poetry is a bridge. An immediate path to becoming better people and being the change in the world. Creating a world less about tearing each other down and apart, and more about coming together. Helping us to realize that we’re not as different as we think. And despite our differences, we are not alone in our grief, pain, joy or happiness.”

For Peter Alevizos, poetry is all this and more – it is intensely personal and fearless.

Why I write them

Many of my poems are about

gaining clarity of life

and my life –

a release of the issues and insecurities

of me and others.

Just how I see it.

Not sure how or where that sits or what it means.

Don’t really sort it out,

just like doing it.

Such a pleasure to escape the thoughts of the mind.

Peter Alevizos has also published Perspectives on My Life, a memoir; Perspectives on Success, A Trilogy for My Children and Heirs, and he has written three children’s books due for publication in early 2026.
